Yoga

Yoga is an ancient east Indian philosophy that encompasses many practices for physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Scholars point to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras as one of the leading foundational texts, written between 100 and 500 BCE.

The common understanding of yoga in the West conjures images of postures–which is just one aspect of Patanjali’s eight limbs of yoga philosophy.

The Sanskrit term “yoga,” means union. The practice of yoga has the potential to bring union to body, mind and spirit; and as such can be a good practice for Christians. Yoga asanas or postures help Christians to honor the body as the temple of the Holy Spirit and support the cultivation of the mind and heart of Christ.
