The Marin Foundation’s Living in the Tension Meeting in Chicago, Illinois

February 18, 2013 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

We’re excited to be hosting Chris Heuertz in Chicago as a part of our Living in the Tension series to share some thoughts with us connected to his new book, Unexpected Gifts: Discovering the Way of Community.

In ‘Unexpected Gifts’, Chris names the inevitable challenges that all friendships, relationships, and communities experience if they stay together long enough. Rather than allowing these challenges to become excuses to leave, he suggests that things like betrayal, transitions, failure, loss of identity, entitlement, and doubt may actually be invitations to stay. And in staying, Chris expands upon how these challenges can become unexpected gifts.

There are few, if any, people that have influenced our work with The Marin Foundation like Chris. For the last 20 years, Chris served as the Co-Director for Word Made Flesh, an organization seeking to serve Jesus among the poorest of the poor. Recently, Chris has begun a new venture with Phileena Heuertz in establishing the organization, Gravity – A Center for Contemplative Activism. At the center, they are helping those on mission and activists to do good better by grounding their work in contemplative spirituality.

We will be gathering in the Fellowship Hall on the bottom level of First Free. We hope that you can come out and join us for the night!
